Bodhgaya is the most importance Buddhist pilgrimage and tourist destination, where people from all Buddhist countries wish to visit and pay homeage to the great Master, the Buddha, Who discovered and taught the mankind to get rid of suffering, The Buddha wished "May all kinds of suffering and miseries, their sorrows and diseases be eradicated".

Buddha is worshipped as maha Bhesajya Guru, Vaiduryaprabharaja, the great Medicine teacher or the king of the doctors. He is also known as medicine Buddha. His images in the form of vaidya are worshipped and some Sanskrit mantras and texts are dedicated to him such as Vaiduryaprabharaja sutra in China, Japan, Korea, Tibet and many other countries of Mahayana Buddhism, he is referred as "Medicine Buddha and described as a doctor who cures suffering though the medicine of his teachings.

Even in the Theravada tradition the Buddha is believed to have saved the people of Vaishali suffering from the great famine and pandemic diseases. Recently several disciplines of Buddhism offered prayer at the Mahabodhi Temple Bodhgaya and other places to get rid of covid-19. In Theravada tradition the "Ratana Sutta" ie recited to get rid of situation like Corona and other pandemic diseases. Ratana Sutta, the jewel sutta and the Metta Sutta are recited by the monks to get rid of such situations and to ward off evil elements.

During the days of the Buddha, this area of Bodhgaya had lush green surroundings with natural beauty of plants, trees, rivers, mountainss etc., definitely an enchanting environment which might have attracted the medicant Siddhartha to stay in this region and engage in contemplation and meditation. Even after 2600 years of Buddha's attaching enlightenment, the surroundings of Bodhgaya have not become so congested, though haphazard development has marred the natural scenic beauty to some extent. Today about 150 Buddhist establishments in its surrounding make Bodhgaya as the foremost important Buddhist place where more than a thousand foreign devotees stay in monasteries and at other private arrangements. In season months, the number grows even hundred times more, when Bodhgaya township wears a quite different look, Where Indians are seen in minority, sometimes only ten percent. Bodhgaya in season months becomes a land of international community, very beautiful, very colorful.
